February 2025
At our Stated Meeting in February, our Lodge was honored to welcome Mike Keeler, President of The Old Barracks Association, who shared a compelling presentation on the history of the Old Barracks in Trenton, New Jersey, and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the “Ten Crucial Days” of the Revolutionary War.

Mr. Keeler transported us back to December 1776, a time of immense hardship and uncertainty for the Continental Army. He vividly described the desperate situation facing General Washington and his troops, and the audacious plan to cross the icy Delaware River on Christmas night. The subsequent victory at the Battle of Trenton, and the follow-up battle a week later, were not just military triumphs, but beacons of hope that reignited the spirit of the Revolution.
It was a powerful reminder that the freedoms we enjoy today were hard-won, and that the courage and determination of those who fought for independence should never be forgotten.
The Old Barracks, originally built in 1758 during the French and Indian War, served as a crucial base of operations during the Revolutionary War and continues to stand as a testament to that era. Today, it’s one of New Jersey’s most important museums, dedicated to educating the public through engaging exhibits, tours, and events.

We also received news that New Jersey is demonstrating its commitment to preserving this vital history with a $25 million investment in ten key Revolutionary War sites, including a new Visitor Center overlooking the Delaware River crossing, scheduled to open in 2026.

Patriots Week
Each year, to commemorate the two Battles of Trenton, the Capital Region explodes with two reenactments, supported by a week of fun and mostly free events throughout the city. From pub crawls to historical lectures to musket firings to puppet shows, there’s something for everyone.
Patriots week is held in the month of December, so we've "missed the boat" so-to-speak. But there is always next year!
